Growthpoint Properties, the largest real estate company in Africa, has appointed its former head of corporate finance, George Muchanya, to lead its Investment Partners business. Muchanya will head the niche co-investments business which was designed to provide Growthpoint as a group with new revenue streams.

Growthpoint Investment Partners has R15bn of assets under management. Its portfolio of niche property co-investments includes South African healthcare properties in Growthpoint Healthcare Reit, income-generating African commercial properties excluding SA in Lango Real Estate and student accommodation in Growthpoint Student Accommodation Reit. These co-investments have “positive, long-term socio-economic impacts, and are all subject to excellent governance and sustainability oversight frameworks”, Growthpoint said.

Muchanya holds BSc Eng and MBA degrees and is a graduate of the Corporate Finance Programme from London Business School and PLD from Harvard Business School.

His career spans 25 years in engineering, investment banking, and also management consulting. Since joining Growthpoint in 2005, he has played a key role in implementing initiatives both offshore and in South Africa.The overall Growthpoint Properties group has exposure to around R160bn worth of assets across SA, the UK, Poland, Romania, and Australia.
