Mayor of Cape Town, Geordin Hill-Lewis says are plans to add a temporary roof to DHL Cape Town Stadium which will cost around R30m. With an open roof, the stadium can only host events that are not weather-dependent, he says.
The city wants to host South African middleweight champion, Dricus de Plessis’ next bout. A temporary roof could be completed by March 2025, if a plan is approved by broader government entities. Cape Town may also host a UFC fight at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).
