Cadastral Capital, a group of hip young developers changing lifestyle nodes in Gauteng, will redevelop the Colony Centre north of Johannesburg as more upwardly mobile people move into the well-located suburb.
The developers have already developed Delta Central in Blairgowrie, Park Corner in Parkwood and Skyveld in Rosebank.
Colony Centre includes long-standing bar Colony Arms, a popular Baby City and bespoke Italian restaurant Pronto.
Hugh Jackson, chief operating officer at Cadastral, says the centre will benefit tremendously from a revamp.
“We have been devising ways to make the centre thrive again. We bought it from Emira Property Fund and are now ready to revitalise this superbly located retail centre, it can be a gem along Jan Smuts which starter-families, young professionals and other groups can enjoy,” he said.
Some tenants are concerned that they won’t be in Cadastral’s future plans at Colony Centre but Jackson said the developers want to create a thriving centre which can accommodate the best existing tenants while creating new opportunities for traders in the node.
The Colony Centre is located in between up-market old money suburb Hyde Park and burgeoning upper middle-class node, Blairgowrie. The new centre is set to include an on-grade convenience Checkers and other neighbourhood tenants as well as entertainment bars and bespoke tenants.
Cadastral’s assets have performed well in the past few years. Delta Central includes popular tenants such as Fresh Earth, Mad Giant Taproom and My Deli, while Park Corner includes A Streetbar Named Desire, Saigon Suzy and Sin + Tax.
