Hyprop Investments, the blue-chip mall owner, will list its shares for trade on A2X Markets from 7 December 2022.

Hyprop joins eight other real estate companies with a secondary listing on A2X; Attacq, Equites Property Fund, Fairvest, Growthpoint Properties, MAS Real Estate, NEPI Rockcastle, SA Corporate Real Estate, and Stor-Age Property Reit.

These companies are listing on extra exchanges as they try to access new forms of capital. The listed property sector has largely battled to raise capital in 2022 in a recessionary economy battling a power crisis.

Hyprop retains its primary listing on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and its issued share capital will be unaffected by its secondary listing on A2X. A2X is a licensed stock exchange that provides a secondary platform for companies to list their shares for trade.

Hyprop owns a portfolio of large retail centres in key economic nodes in South Africa and Eastern Europe.

“At Hyprop, we have a multi-skilled, diverse team of experts and a solid business model focusing on delivering long-term value to all our stakeholders. Our secondary listing on A2X gives more choice and savings to our current investors and also provides the opportunity to attract new ones,” Hyprop CEO Morné Wilken said.

A2X CEO Kevin Brady said A2X was growing well.

“We are pleased to be welcoming Hyprop to A2X. Their listing brings the number of property stocks listed on A2X to 9 and represents almost 60% of the sector by market cap. Hyprop’s addition, further endorses the benefits a secondary listing creates for a company’s investors, namely choice, lower fees, added liquidity and narrower spreads,” said Brady.

The listing will bring the number of instruments listed on A2X to 93 with a combined market capitalisation of R5.3trn.

A2X is regulated by the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) and the Prudential Authority, the South African Reserve Bank (SARB), in terms of the Financial Markets Act.
