One of the sharpest minds in the commercial property industry, Bandile Zondo, passed away suddenly on Sunday night.

Zondo was head of “real estate coverage commercial and investment banking” at the Standard Bank Group.

Having started his career as an actuarial analyst in the early 2000s, by 2011 he was researching real estate and built a strong reputation in his field.

A gentle, measured and witty professional, Bandi Zondo stood by his strong principles. He was well-known for asking tough and relevant questions and for mentoring others.

There has been an outpouring of grief following his passing.

“There are two analysts reports that I open immediately and Bandi’s was one of them. We will miss his deep competence and open nature,” said Rob Kane, Boxwood Property CEO.

Standard Bank said Bandi Zondo would be remembered for his passion for people, his kindness, boundless love, calm nature, and his power to inspire others to be the best they could.

“He will be dearly missed as a great ambassador for the industry and leaves behind a lasting legacy of his profession and of being a great human being. We extend our deepest condolences to the Zondo family, friends and loved ones,” wrote the Standard Bank real estate team.

Bandi was great to work with for Property Flash and for its editor, Alistair Anderson, in his previous roles. He will be sorely missed.
