Former Minister of Finance and Governor of the SA Reserve Bank (SARB), passed away this past weekend after a short illness. He was 65. He studied development economics at the University of East Anglia in England. When he was the Minister of Finance in 2019, he published a paper which inspired Operation Vulindlela, the joint initiative of the Presidency and National Treasury to accelerate the implementation of structural reforms and support economic recovery through modernising network industries, including water, electricity, transport and digital communications.
