Business mogul Douw Steyn has passed away at 72, Picture supplied by Steyn City
Douw Steyn, who made his fortune from insurance and later developed numerous estates and other projects, has died. Steyn City, the high-end estate east of Dainfern and south of Diepsloot township, was his last prominent development. He was in poor health for years before passing at 72 years old.
His family includes sons TJ and Louis and wife Carolyn Steyn, a former actress who appeared on Babylon 5 and Melrose Place, has worked as a media personality and founder of the no-profit organisation, 67 Blankets for Mandela.
Giuseppe Plumari of Steyn Properties announced Steyn’s passing. He said: “Douw will always be remembered as an exceptional entrepreneur who built a global business of immense scale across seven countries, and a visionary with deep-seated commitment to South Africa and its people.”
