Attacq, a JSE-listed Real Estate Investment Trust (Reit) and development partner in Waterfall City, has announced its headline sponsorship alongside the Waterfall City Management Company, in the Sunshine Tour’s start of the 2024/25 season tournament: the inaugural Waterfall City Tournament of Champions powered by Attacq (WCTCA). The tournament will take place at the Royal Johannesburg Golf Club’s East Championship Course from Thursday May 2 to Sunday May 4 2024.
Attacq said its sponsorship of the WCTCA reflected its commitment to empowering athletes, nurturing local talent and fostering positive impact in South Africa. The event will showcase a diverse field of champions from across the country, including past Sunshine Tour and Sunshine Ladies Tour players, as well as the tour’s top transformation player and emerging stars from the 2023/24 season.
There is R2.5m worth of prize money for the top performers.
The South African Disabled Golf Association (SADGA) will also host its own tournament ahead of the main event, whereby six of South Africa’s leading golfers with disabilities have been given a unique opportunity to compete, showcasing the considerable talent within the ranks of the disabled golfing community. Attacq and Waterfall City have been commended by SADGA for creating an opportunity to spotlight these athletes.
“We see this sponsorship as a critical investment for Attacq as a young, innovative, and growing JSE listed REIT. We are continuously finding ways to create social impact and in a country like South Africa this includes supporting initiatives which help identify and nurture talented athletes. The WCTCA’s inclusivity is a reflection of our values, ensuring that golf remains accessible to all”, said Michael Clampett, Attacq’s Asset and Property Management Executive.
“As a proudly South African business, we recognise the profound impact we can make on the communities within which we operate, including prioritising social responsibility and sustainable development. Through our sponsorship and participation in the Tournament of Champions, we celebrate emerging golfing talent on a global platform. Similarly, Waterfall City is a local South African precinct, emerging as a formidable player within international markets, winning the Best International Mixed-use Architecture 2023-2024 award at the prestigious annual property awards ceremony held in London earlier this year,” he said.
Known professionals playing include: Darren Fichardt, Rupert Kaminski, Jbe Kruger, Tvesa Malik and CJ du Plessis.
The tournament is broadcast live on SuperSport Channel 213 Golf, and attendees will use the newly added Spectator Village.
