The FM Expo and its affiliate expos were huge success this week. Held from June 2 to 4 at Gallagher Estate, the expo cemented its position as the best national event for the facilities management industry.
The Montgomery Group acquired the expo in 2016 and has held top-end exhibitions since. Some 10 000 visitors attended the five shows which included: FM Expo, Securex, A-OSH, Firexpo and R+ over the three days. They saw more than 250 exhibitors.
Mark Anderson, Portfolio Director at Montgomery Group Africa said the FM Expo and its affiliate events have grown tremendously since the pandemic ended.
“In 2020 there was no conference, but we have since seen exhibitors grow. The RE+ new show which focuses on the renewable energy space was added this year as was the RE+ theatre area where people gave presentations,” says Anderson.
People were able to enjoy talks and discussions on the floor with a theatre, a stage and other audio visual areas.
The expo brought opportunities for the market to come together including facilities managers, property owners, service providers, and investors. They discussed how to close the skills gap.
Visitors were also able to sign up to industry representative body SAFMA (South African Facilities Management Association).
The RE+ expo was a large win, after Montgomery Group got feedback about needing an expo focused on energy.
“With the right profile of visitor mix and exhibitors, the RE+ can only grow. Visitors learned about the solar battery industry and corporate energy space,” Anderson says.
Visitors were exposed to talks about smart building systems, energy efficiency, ESG requirements, energy management systems, pro conference organisation, the private sector’s role in energy and professional bodies related to energy.
Anderson says the FM Expo and its affiliates are world-class and visitors are exposed to the latest tech is in SA, with new products and launches.
There were new CCTV camera systems, access control and drone displays at Securex for example. Firexpo, a natural progression out of Securex showcased fire companies, hazmat suit tech, extinguishers, fire suppression systems, fire detection systems and trucks.
“This was an opportunity for facilities management professionals to view what is out there, make better decisions, make those decisions with greater confidence, and to network as they compared solutions,” says Anderson.
