Welcome to the latest episode of the Another Brick in the Wall podcast. In this episode, Michael and Alistair chat to Ian Anderson, Portfolio Manager and Head of Listed Property at Merchant West Investments. The three discuss how South Africa’s Reit industry has been tenacious in 2026 and how they may be a safe haven compared with chaotic markets abroad.
Anderson has worked in SA listed property since 1996, when he helped launch the Marriott Property Equity Fund, which was the first fund of its kind in South Africa. He has also run the Nedgroup Investments Property Fund since it launched in July 2010, and holds both the CFA and CAIA charters, with 30 years in local and global markets. He comments regularly about commercial real estate.
He compiles the SA REIT Association’s monthly Chart Book. The Association describes it as a distillation of the sector’s performance, valuation, yield and capital-markets activity into visual form, with commentary for investors and media.
