IBIZA, SPAIN
According to a March 2026 report on luxury vacation home investments, Ibiza, Spain, is soaring. A study by Maui Elite Property shows where buying a high-end vacation house can turn into generational wealth over the next few years.
- Ibiza has the best luxury vacation home market, with $3M properties projected to grow to $240M over 50 years there, it says.
- At $440 per night, landlords in Turks & Caicos can charge the highest rental rates, making $100K every year.
- Maui and Miami are America’s top two luxury property markets, where a single home bought today could be worth over $110M in the near future.
The research examined 30 luxury vacation home markets to find where high-end property can yield the most returns. The report looked at average luxury home prices, the number of luxury estates available, and how much home values have grown annually over the past decade. The study also tracked short-term rental data, including nightly rates, occupancy rates, and how rents have changed over the past three years. For additional context, the study also considered safety rates and climate for each destination. The report then estimated what a home in each market would be worth 50 years from now, adding in rental earnings over that time. The markets with the highest return ranked at the top.
Here’s a look at the top 10 best luxury vacation home markets for building generational wealth:
| Location | Projected Value in 50 Years | Projected Rental Revenue in 50 years | Total Value |
| Ibiza | $240m | $5.4m | $245.4m |
| Maui | $112m | $5.0m | $117.1m |
| Miami | $114.4m | $2.5m | $116.9m |
| Cascais | $91.9m | $2.3m | $94.2m |

1. Ibiza, Spain
- Average luxury home price: $3.28M
- 10-year annual price growth: 9%
- Projected property value in 50 years: $240M
- Projected rental revenue in 50 years: $5.4M
- Nightly rent rate: $424
- Rental occupancy rate: 70%
- Safety index: 53.8
- Climate index: 96.5
Ibiza offers the world’s best luxury vacation home investment opportunity. At 9% annual price growth, a $3.2M property here is projected to reach $240 million in value over 50 years. No other market comes close to that figure. Beyond appreciation, Ibiza’s rental market is equally active: with nightly rates of $424 and rooms filled 70% of the time, the landlords here can get $5.4M in rental income alone over the same period. Plus, the island’s sunny weather also keeps demand high year-round.
2. Maui, Hawaii
Maui ranks second, with a typical luxury home projected to reach $112M in value over 50 years. That is because the housing market on this Hawaiian destination is pretty small, with only 365 luxury properties on the entire island. This scarcity naturally pushes the prices higher, including the rental rates, which can go over $350 plus a night. Plus, Maui is also one of the most popular warm destinations among Americans, allowing hosts to keep their Airbnb calendars booked 78% of the time.
3. Miami, Florida
Miami takes third place, as home prices here grow at 9.5% a year, the fastest rate. At this pace, a $1.2M property there can turn into a $114M one. Miami is also the easiest market to actually buy into: entry prices are well below Ibiza or Maui, and there are over 4,200 luxury estates to choose from. On top of that, rents have jumped nearly 28% in just the past three years, which means the city keeps attracting more short-term rental demand.
4. Cascais, Portugal
Cascais ranks fourth as another European alternative to American luxury real estate markets. A typical home here costs around $2M on average, and at 8% annual appreciation, that same property is projected to be worth $92M. The Portuguese town also happens to be the safest destination in the top five, scoring 72.9 on the index, and its warm, sunny climate keeps tourist demand steady throughout the year rather than just in peak season.
5. Mallorca, Spain
Mallorca rounds out the top five as the biggest luxury market, with 11K+ estates available across the island. That gives buyers real choice in location and price point within the luxury bracket. Despite the large inventory, homes here still appreciate at 7.5% a year, and rentals stay booked 79% of the time, nearly matching Maui’s rate. Over 50 years, that adds up to a projected $72.7M in property value plus $2.5M in rental income.
“The best time to buy in markets like Ibiza or Maui was 20 years ago. The second-best time is now. These places don’t have space to build more luxury homes, and the number of people interested in taking the opportunity keeps growing. A property that covers its own costs through rentals while doubling in value every decade is one of the best financial decisions a family can make. Not every market works this way,” Maui Elite Property’s Evan Harlow said.
