Housing estate developer Jacques Coetzee was crowned SAPIN’s Investor of the year 2026 at the Maslow Hotel in Sandton this past Saturday, taking the top honour at the fifth season of the awards.
Tne awards which tend to favour residential developers were presented by the SA Property Investors Network (SAPIN) in partnership with Absa Home Loans.
Season 5 attracted around 200 entries from across South Africa, with 21 finalists progressing to the final stage and competing across 12 award categories.
2026’s top winners:
Big League category winner: Jacques Coetzee
Beginner category winner: Amanda Stone
‘Intermediate’ category winner: Michael Brink
As the overall winner, Jacques Coetzee walked away with the Investor of the Year 2026 title and a R100 000 grand prize.
The evening celebrated not only the winners, but the journeys of the finalists and the diversity of property investment strategies being implemented across South Africa, SAPIN said.
The final judging panel comprised:
- Nondumiso Ncapai, Managing Executive: ABSA Home Loans
- Neale Petersen, Founder of Real Estate Investor Magazine
- Mabuye Mokoena, CEO of Mokoena Africa Group
The gala was hosted by ABSA’s Zintle Oyiya, who guided guests through the finalist presentations, awards, audience participation and winner announcements throughout the evening.
The Investor of the Year Awards were created to recognise real South African property investors and the work, strategy, resilience and determination behind their investment journeys.
IOTY provides “a national platform for investors at different stages of their journeys, from those taking their first steps into property investment to experienced investors building substantial portfolios”, it said.
