Business Day newspaper reported that Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan has announced his retirement, so that he can focus on his health and family.
The National Elections on May 29 will mark the end of the 74-year-old’s political career.
He has been involved with politics since the 1960s and has served in various positions in government.
Gordhan is an apartheid liberation veteran. He served as Minister of Finance, Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs and is currently Minister of Public Enterprises. He has faced criticism for the struggles faced by SOEs such as Transnet and SAA, under his watch.
