Cape Town-based developer Mabel Group has completed Crawford Centre, a boutique mixed-use development in Crawford, Cape
Town, comprising a supermarket and eight apartments
The retail anchor is Checkers’ first Halaal-certified store in the Western Cape, operating under the Checkers Foods format – a curated, high-end convenience offering tailored to the surrounding community. Freshly prepared food, a selection of meats from the on-site Halaal butcher, and local delicacies lead the range. The store has been certified by the Muslim Judicial Council (MJC) and has created 70 job
opportunities within the community.

The number of local suppliers, including SMEs, for which opportunities have been created is encouraging and creates a multiplier effect to the direct jobs created by the store itself. Crawford Centre’s apartments are aimed at young professionals and couples looking for a secure, lock-up-and-go starter home close to family. The 8-unit development is within walking distance of local amenities and places of worship, close to UCT, and within the catchment area for southern suburbs schools. The development reflects Mabel’s ambitions to identify and unlock opportunities across the Western Cape.
