South African entrepreneur and investor, Eric Ellerine has passed away at the age of 90. He was considered to be one of SA’s most prominent businessmen who sustained his wealth for decades. He founded Ellerines, a furniture group at the age of 16 in 1950. His younger brother, Sydney joined the business two years later. In 1969, Ellerines was listed on the JSE and it grew into one of the largest furniture retailers in the country.
Ellerine invested in property and private equity investments. His trust had exposure to Canal Walk shopping centre in Cape Town, Fourways Crossing retail centre in Johannesburg, The Glen in Johannesburg south and Sabvest Capital among other assets.
