A 44-year-old man was arrested at Growthpoint Properties’ Festival Mall in Kempton Park, Gauteng on Friday January 17, following a stabbing at an unnamed store.

According to an article published by Kempton Express, Kempton Park SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Dipuo Ditshego said a woman visited the store to exchange clothing but could not provide a receipt.

“When the staff informed her that they could not process the exchange without proof of purchase, her boyfriend demanded to see the manager,” said Ditshego.

The man became aggressive during the confrontation.

“He allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the manager twice in the upper body,” said Ditshego.

Emergency services were called, and the store manager was airlifted to hospital for treatment.

The suspect was arrested at the scene and will face charges of attempted murder.

In South Africa, shoppers are rarely forced to walk through metal detectors or searched for weapons.
