Knysna has established itself as a magical town, lying snugly in the magnificent Western Cape Garden Route. All kinds of tourists from around the world and throughout South Africa are discovering the Garden Route for the first time as they look to enjoy world-class, sometimes understated but often endearing and unforgettable experiences on offer. Many of these people are also keen to return to the Garden Route because there is just too much to do during one visit.
It’s impressive that Knysna has become a holiday destination or a place where people desire to retire that competes with the well-marketed Cape Town. What’s also exciting is that Knysna is attracting entrepreneurs and their startups as well as people who work remotely. Digital nomads from the US, Canada, western Europe and even parts of Asia and the rest of Africa are staying for three or six months at a time and enjoying what Knysna has to offer while working for tech companies from the comfort of their laptops.
Idyllic views
It’s also fantastic that Knysna’s recovery following the 2017 fires has been so impressive with people who lost much of their businesses and livelihoods bouncing back stronger.
It’s also wonderful to see that not only tourists are visiting this vibrant town but there are new residents who hail from across the planet.
Guest houses have been purchased by German, Swiss, British, and Belgian investors who are upgrading and restoring the older historical properties.
South African people are also investing and have recognised the appeal of living in idyllic towns and gorgeous areas as opposed to having to deal with the day-to-day buzz of large cities. Knysna is an upcoming, trendy town which offers a keen balance of cosmopolitan aspects with strong traditions and a rich heritage. There are reasons why Knysna being a top town to invest in, in the Western Cape won’t be a secret for much longer.
It’s a competitive space for investors given the assortment of stunning homes. A standout example is 6 Westhill Drive, West Hill; a majestic historical property built in 1926. As recent as 2015 the old house was sensitively restored and extended to the north and west. Attention to detail in both the interior and exterior can be seen throughout the property which is now on sale with an asking price of R10.75m.
Westhill reveals breathtaking panoramic views, unveiling the splendour of the Knysna Estuary as it sweeps gracefully through the iconic Knysna Heads and opens to the boundless expanse of the Indian Ocean.
6 Westhill Drive, Westhill
With a plot size of 1587m² and a house size of 613 m², the spaciousness on offer is highly inviting and unusual compared with other homes in the Garden Route. Westhill is well-maintained and in an excellent condition throughout. It is suitable for a large family, can be used as a work-from-home setup with consulting rooms, or run as a stunning guesthouse.
The property includes five reception rooms, six ensuite bedrooms, a large kitchen, a utility room, purposed built office (with fibre connectivity), and plenty of storage options. There is a double garage and large car park. Outside, there is a freshwater pool surrounded by a well-maintained garden which has indigenous plants throughout, an irrigation system and three water tanks which total to ten thousand litres. Solar panels provide power for the pool pump and hot water for the two geysers. Security consists of electronic gates, CCTV cameras and there are alarm sensors throughout the property.
Westhill is situated close to top schools and in walking distance of Oakhill Private School. It is also just a ten-minute stroll into town, or fifteen minutes to the waterfront.
Pool view
Staying in Westhill grants people exciting opportunities which Knysna offers. There is an exciting array of land and water-based experiences within the unmatched natural beauty of the indigenous forests, miles of beaches, rivers and lakes that border the town.
Knysna offers easy access to both George to the west, Plettenberg Bay and Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) to the east, making it the quintessential base for exploring this enchanting region.
Golf enthusiasts will be in their element, with world-class courses beckoning and fishing aficionados can revel in the diverse opportunities the Knysna Estuary and Indian Ocean offers.
The town is also famous for hosting the Simola Hillclimb at the beginning of May and the Oyster Festival at the end of June.
