SOUTH AFRICA
The SA Property Investors Network (SAPIN) in partnership with Absa announced the winners of its prestigious Investor of the Year Awards 2024 this past Saturday with an unforgettable celebration hosted at Shepstone Gardens, Johannesburg.
The Awards brought together property investors, financiers, property professionals, and media to celebrate the movers and shakers within South Africa’s property sector who have defied tough economic headwinds to build property deals and portfolios that are uplifting suburbs, communities, and cities. These are profitable and successful deals.
The black-tie event, sponsored by Absa Home Loans, Tuhf, Preferental, Tile Africa, Bruno Simao Attorneys, and Business Partners was sold-out event with delegates attending from all across the property value chain. Entrepreneur, Patricia Tshitema was announced as the Investor of the Year 2024.
Patricia, who also won the Big Leagues and Inner-City Investor categories, beat out her peers as Investor of the Year with the development of the Opal Student Accommodation, Primula House, located in Sunnyside, Pretoria, which currently houses 270 students and is valued at R36m.
When asked about why winning Investor of the Year was important to her, Patricia, who is CEO of Bono Property Group, said:
“Winning three categories leaves me at a loss for words, but I am grateful and humbled. This night is the beginning; I am returning to the drawing board to multiply every dream I have. I have dreamed of being a property investor for many years and decided to do it. The heart of my property journey is to empower the young people we are housing. That’s what drives me to wake up every morning. When announced as the overall winner, I got confirmation that your dreams are worth more than what this moment in time looks like.”
“Thank you to SAPIN, the networking platform that exposes you to the right and relevant people, places, and organisations you can partner with to get what you need, from legal to financial assistance. All the resources you need to succeed in property investment are within the SAPIN community,” she said.
Andrew walker, CEO of SAPIN said:
“I want to keep this short because tonight is all about the finalists. There are thousands upon thousands of property investors in South Africa, but only 18 are seated here tonight.”
Nondumiso Ncapai, Managing Executive at Absa Home Loans, said the SAPIN awards had grown in popularity and importance.
“I congratulate the team and the Awards, which have grown to ten categories, showing property investment’s diversity and multi-faceted nature in our dynamic market. The Investor of the Year Awards celebrates ordinary South Africans doing extraordinary things in property investment essential for our country and economy,” she said.
Our purpose [at Absa Home Loans] is to house the nation and shape the property industry meaningfully. We make this bold ambition because we know it must happen now, in our lifetime, not the next; it’s up to us and the partnerships we forge, like ours with SAPIN, to make it happen,” she said.
Judges asked each finalist questions and tallied their scores with the audience’s assistance both at the event and online (the latter making up 20% of the final score).
